Sharqi (or classical)

Mahamed Abdul Wahab is the best of Egyptian classics music.  Instruments such as violin, ney, and qanoon are used to have a beautiful effect.  This style uses smaller movements, isolation and lyrical, and arms and upper torso.  The veil is used, floating behind or in front of the dancer.  Sharqi is more theatrical dance requiring space for large gliding steps and spins.

Sharqi Costumes:

Skirts are worn with a beaded hip scarf and fitted top.  Sometimes you can see the belly through a body stocking.  Because of the culture, Egyptian dancers are not allowed to show their uncovered belly.  The jewelry that is worn is smaller.  The veil is light weight and can be different shapes.
